fearlessness and stupidity

catherine qu tongfu

at night
a cockroach in the kitchen
ignores me
this makes me angry
without hesitation
I step on
the poor guy
don’t you know
how to protect yourself ?

i fall from the 19th floor

catherine  qu tongfu

and so I see
the 18th floor
Jack’s just been fired
he’s smoking by the door

on the 15th floor
rewriting the rejected paper
Anne gets
terrible dark circles
she looks like a panda

13th floor
a dear John letter
makes a tough guy
burst into tears

9th
floor
the nice granny is
waiting for the door bell
to ring
she hasn’t seen
her son for half a year

6th floor
little Emily is scolded
by her mother
for watching too much cartoon

3rd floor
nobody at home
a cat curls up in the corner lonely and hungry

the worst thing is
all put away bad moods
to rush to the window
to stare at me

none of their eyes
could catch

drunk
catherine qu tongfu

first steps
are dizzy
stumbling

the tongue twists with what
one can not tell

disguise melts in the wine
the tongue’s guard’s down

two true kinds of human
one is the new born baby
the other is the drunk

cellphone

catherine qu tongfu

a certain set of numbers
to represent a certain person
no need to remember
sometimes strangers ring
(wrong numbers)
it’s just like being mistaken
for someone on the street

I never turn off my phone
I need it to prove
my existence

one day
my cellphone is lost
so am I
I know what to tell my friends
and it’s true –
this is the end of the world

the frog at the bottom of the well

catherine qu tongfu

a frog sits at the bottom of the well
a bird flies in the sky
one can see
just a coin’s worth of blue
the other in every direction

who knows better
about the sky?
it’s not for us to say
